Filhaal
Starring: Tabu
Music: Anu Malik
Lyrics: Gulzar
Filhaal-
Asha Bhonsle
The title song starts off with a superb piano intro. Asha Bhonsle
croons softly to her vocal best. The lyrics are deep. The tune is
average but the instrumentation & orchestration is really good.
Good song.
Le
Chale Doliyon- Roop Kumar Rathod, Anuradha Paudwal
Anu Malik starts the song with a weird mix of Indian classical and
Scottish music. A slow song that is worth listening to because of
its sweet tune and nice lyric.
Sola
Singaar- Jaspinder Narula, Palash Sen
The tune is very typical. The instrumentation is nice to listen
to. The chorus is very western, and is typical of Anu Malik, remember
Rabba Rabba from Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai? Special mention for the
style of flute and obo (ala Sandeep Chowta). Average
Kyon
Baar Baar- Chitra
is an absolute delight to listen to in this song. Like the other
tracks in this album, this too is a slow sweet number.
Naya
Naya- K.K., Chitra
The track gets a melodious intro but the tune is boring. The singers
are good. Average.
Dil
Ke Samnate- Palash Sen
Euphoria's Palash Sen sings this solo. For some reason Palash's
and K.K.'s singing styles are very similar. The song is too slow
but the lyric is terrific. Average.
Waqt
Ka Saaya- Sonu Nigam, Jaspinder Narula
This song sounds strikingly similar to the Na Leke Jaao song from
Fiza. Not only that, the song is just too boring. Skip it.
After
3 superb soundtracks like Josh, Refugee, and Mujhe Kucch Kehna hai,
Anu Malik got back to his old commercial fare. He had some awful albums
after that. In my view, this album is a semi-comeback for Anu Malik.
I say semi because this album lacks what Refugee had. Refugee and
Filhaal both have superb instrumentation and orchestration (Filhaal
has a lot of Rahman's sounds. Why is Anu Malik adapting to A.R.Rahman's
style?). However, Refugee's tunes are melodious while Filhaal doesn't
have too much of that. The melody just isn't good enough to make the
soundtrack a 'good' soundtrack. Gulzar's lyrics once again remind
us that he is the best lyricist (arguably) in the industry. I don't
think the music in this movie will be a commercial hit because all
the songs in this movie are paced between being slow to extremely
slow. On the other hand, you never know, remember Refugee? The songs
came as quite as a surprise, suddenly everyone liked Rafugee's songs.
In conclusion, this soundtrack is worth listening to, for its semi-good
tunes and fantastic lyrics.

Kitne Door Kitne Paas
Starring: Fardeen Khan, Amrita Arora
Music: Sanjeev Darshan
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi, Anwar Sagar, Abbas
Kitne
Door Kitne Paas- Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy
The song starts on a promising note and becomes an average number.
Kavita Krishnamurthy's voice is too high pitched for this song.
Udit Narayan is O.K. The Background music sounds like it is part
of a 'typical' Bollywood song. Average.
Ji
Jeend Jaan Jawani Janam- Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik
Folks, listening to this song, I wonder if this song is from an
album of the infamous Mann's from the west (i.e. Harbhajan Mann,
Gursewak Mann). The song is more Punjabi but Hindi but even the
Punjabi lyrics are worse than mediocrity. Bad, bad, bad!
Humko
Mohabbat Dhoond Rahi Thi- Roop Kumar Rathod, Jayshree Shivram
With this song, Sajjeev -Darshan are slowly joining the ranks of
Anand- Milind and Dilip Sen- Sameer Sen. The ranks of boring and
repetitive. Mehul Kumar never had good music in his movies anyway
(remember the awful Kohram?). Rulati Hai Mohabbatein- K.K. (Lyrics:
Anwar Sagar)
The tune is ok while the techno beat makes this song worth a couple
of listen to it's. Anwar Sagar's lyrics aren't anything exceptional.
K.K's rendition is simply superb. This song sounds like an Indo-pop
song. Above average song.
Diwana
Dil Hai Mera- Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan (Lyrics: Abbas)
The song starts off average and it ends average. The Arabic touch
given to this song is getting repetitive of the Sanjeev- Darshan
duo. They had songs similar to it in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai and
Mann. Average.
Yaar
Mai India Chala- Sonu Nigam, Mohd. Aziz
The intro sounds sweet. The song is melodious. Good Song.
The Sanjeev-Darshan
duo is simply not good enough for the competition in Bollywood. They
are getting boring and they don't have a distinct sound. Mehul Kumar
is not off to a good start as far as the music of the movie is concerned.
Besides, Mahul Kumar hasn't had too many hits in the recent past.
People should just get rid of the Jatin-Lalit's, Anand-Milind's, Dilip
Sen-Sameer Sen's, Sajid-Wajid's and now Sanjeev-Darshan's and should
just make way of new, promising talent. My advice to Bollywood: Guys
there is plenty of talent in Mumbai, forget these boring duo's!

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena
Kapoor, Kajol
Music: Jatin-Lalit
Lyrics: Sameer
Grace
your ears with the nightingale's voice, Lata Mangeshkar as she
up with the title track for the film, "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie
Gham".
Next
follows, "Bole Chudiyan"
and it is catchy but you can't help but notice the similarity in
the lyrics written by Sameer to those of Bally Jagpal's "Aaja
Soneya" sung by Shazia Mansoor. What happen to creativity,
there is more improvisation if you ask me. Sandesh Shandilya is
the next music director after Jatin and Lalit and he does a funkier
tune compared to his somber tune of the Indian pop album "Piya
Basanti". This time it is "You are my Soniya" and
it clearly is a song where Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor's puppy
love develops, with the sultry voice of Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik.
Sandesh
is back with a truly exceptional romantic song, "Suraj Hua
Madham". It has been well written by Anil Pandey and the mood
set by the song is touching. Also make sure you don't miss out on
the "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai"
bit in the song, which brings you fond memories of Shahrukh and
Kajol's fiery love on screen, now sounding mature in this song.
Exclusive bit here also is that this song has been shot in Egypt
near the Pyramids of Giza so it should look fantastic and yes, different!
So what's this "Say Shava Shava?" Aadesh Shrivastava had
hit the right chord with Amitabh Bachan with the song "Sona
Sona" in Major Saab and does it again with "Say Shava
Shava". Sameer has written it and with Aby Baby leading the
vocals, it is really cool. So what if he is 59, he still is an icon.
Also looks like there will be a female guest appearance for the
song, maybe Simone Singh, Rani Mukherjee or even Aishwarya Rai.
So watch out!
Remember
"Ladki Badi Anjani Hai, Saajanji Ghar
Aaye"? Now it is "Yeh Ladka Hai Allah" featuring
Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, music by Jatin-Lalit and lyrics by
Sameer. The song has a small story to tell and is interesting. The
title meanwhile reminds you of Asha Bhosle's hit song, "Yeh
Ladka Hai Allah". Sonu Nigam has been chosen to sing the title
track's sad version. I'm not too sure if I like it that much yet,
how about you?
Kareena
Kapoor challenges Hrithik Roshan in the song "Deewana
Hai Dekho". Music by Sandesh again but lyrics by Sameer,
let's see what it will look like, because it takes time to become
your favorite. The soul of "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham"
has been composed brilliantly by Sandesh. It has the sense of drama,
emotions and is excellent work by Sandesh, well done. The surprise
of the whole film's songs is "Vande Mataram" by Usha Uthup.
It sure is a treat and music by Sandesh is different. It is an honor
for her and a pleasure for her fans, but how does it fit in the
film?
The
songs of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham are
not such a disappointment considering that it is Karan Johar's second
film with the expectations so high.
Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche
Starring: Aftab Shivdasani, Esha Deol, Sanjay Kapoor Music: Rajesh
Roshan Lyrics: Ibrahim Ashq, Dev Kohli, Suryabhanu Gupt
Intro-koi
mere dil se pooche- Udit Narayan
Short 30 second intro to the album. Udit Narayan sings it well.
Aawaara
Main Badal- Sonu Nigam, Hema Sardesai
The orchestrations are boring and the tune is a little dry. But
Sonu Nigam and Hema Sardesai render the song beautifully and make
the track at least average.
Deewana
Tera Hai- Udit Narayan
The tune is sweet and the Spanish guitar is nice. However, Rajesh
Roshan still repeats some of his older Kaho na pyaar hai instrumentations.
Udit Narayan sings this song. Good song.
Koyi
Mere Dil Se Pooche- Udit Narayan, Pamela Jain
The song is a feel good happy number. It is a good listen but Rajesh
Roshan keeps repeating the same sounds from Kaho Na Pyaar Hai for
the back ground music. Nice title track though.
Mat
Ho Udhas- Shaan, Pamela Jain
Shaan is at his usual best for this song. Biggest drawback for this
song is that it is a straight repeat of Naa Tum Jaano Na Hum from
Kaho Na Pyaar Hai.
Kahti
Hai Mangni Ki Anghooti- Preeti Uttham
This song starts off on a promising note because of Preeti Uttham.
The song just dries up after the first 20 seconds. Sounds like a
Jatin Lalit composition, the only difference is that Preeti Uttham
sings this, not Lata Mangeshkar. Ms. Uttham could not save this
one.
Lapak
Jhapak- Kamaal Khan
The track starts of superbly and evens out to an above- average
song. Kamaal Khan is not a good choice for the song because his
voice keeps breaking in the song. The use of synthesizer is nice.
The song sounds like its from a concert.
Hanse
Tim Tim- Pamela Jain
Pamela Jain sings this song wonderfully. She sounds like Alka Yagnik
sometimes. The tune is boring and there is almost no good supporting
music. The only support is from the chorus and the chorus sing like
they are singing for a sad song from the 80's. Average.
Tera
Bhala Kare Bhagwan- Sonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is good in this song but I think K.K could have done
a better job. The song itself is extremeley mediocre and one feels
like fast forwarding after the first 2 minutes.
This
album is ridiculously average. It looks like Rajesh Roshan is still
stuck on Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai because he keeps repeating the same
numbers. . I don't think Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai had exceptional music,
it was more the picturization that made its music a big hit.
None
of the lyrics in the songs stand out. This Boney Kapoor film has
to be a good movie in order to be a hit. The music definitely will
not help. Boney Kapoor said that a movie like Gadar did not need
its music to become 2001's biggest hit (Gadar had mediocre music
also). Uh-oh, did Boney bhai forget the likes of Mohra or Taal?
The music in these movies made them blockbusters.
