Method
Make cake according to directions on packet, pour into greased 23cm (9in) square slab tin, bake in moderate oven 30 minutes or until cooked when tested. Turn on to wire rack to cool.
Cut 5cm (2in) off bottom of cake to form base of machine. Trim remaining cake into the shape of the body of ma-chine, as shown. From leftover piece cut a circle about 8cm (3m) in diameter, as shown, to make wheel. Place cake on prepared board. Tint 1,4 cup Vienna Cream with sifted cocoa, spread cream over top and sides of base, cover top and sides of body and wheel
Assemble machine body on base, position wheel, as shown. Cottonreel is made by pressing 4cm (124mn) piece of thick licorice into two licorice all-sorts. Decorate rest of machine with assorted sweets, as shown; if neces-sary, secure with wooden cocktail sticks. Wind coloured cord around cottonreel at top of machine, thread through and around sweets, as shown, thread through licorice needle. Plate under the needle is made from an icecream wafer trimmed to size.
