Pimples pop up for
a bunch of reasons.
Unfortunately, there
are a lot of myths
about what these reasons
are.
Despite what your
friends might say,
chocolate and french
fries aren't among
the causes of pimples.
You just don't get
pimples from what
you eat.
Stress, though, can
help get your hormones
churning, and your
hormones are one reason
for your pimples.
Maybe that's why it
always seems like
you break out when
you stress-out.
Reasons why Pimple
pop Up :
As you jump headfirst
into puberty you know
there are a lot of
changes happening
in your body. Well,
you can thank your
hormones for that.
You can't stop them
and, if you think
about it, you really
wouldn't want to in
the long run anyway,
would you?
As you grow toward
adulthood, these hormones
start getting all
active. When that
happens they start
triggering a bunch
of other things, including
things under the surface
of your skin.
Pimples
start down in your
pores. Down there
are oil glands that
produce this stuff
called sebum. It's
the oil you can feel
on the surface of
your skin.
Most of the time,
the sebum escapes
pretty much unnoticed
through your pores,
onto the surface of
your skin.
Sometimes, though,
something goes wrong
with the way your
dead skin cells are
shed in the hair follicle.
Instead of just escaping
with the oil, they
can team up with extra
sebum stuff that your
hormones have triggered.
Together, they form
a plug inside the
pore.
More dead skin cells
and sebum join in
and it's like a big
crowd, all pushing
toward one blocked
exit. Nobody's getting
out.This gang can
turn into what the
scientists call a
lesion. They come
in two types: non-inflamed
and inflamed.
The non-inflamed lesions
don't have any redness
to them.Now you may
have heard about "blackheads"
(in fact, you may
have had them before).
These non-inflamed
lesions can stick
out from your pores
and are very noticeable.
Some people think
they're filled with
dirt. But really,
the content of the
clogged pore can appear
black as a result
of dark pigment or
oxidized oil, not
because of dirt.
Some non-inflamed
lesions look like
little white bumps
on your skin. These
are called "whiteheads"-unlike
"blackheads,"
you can't see the
contents of the pores
since they are closed
to the surface.
What we all know as
pimples are really
inflamed lesions.
It sounds kind of
scary, but really
it just means that
there's been some
redness and swelling.
This all happens because
the bacteria that
live in a healthy
follicle can break
down when the pore's
been plugged. Little
irritants found inside
the pore get everything
worked up and inflamed.
That's what has happened
when you wake up and
see the pimple on
your nose.
